Symantic Antivirus CE

Symantec Antivirus, corporate edition, which is licensed for use by all Quinnipiac University network users, is or should be installed on your computer. If you do not have Symantec antivirus, you can have it installed on your laptop computer at the Computer Help Desk. Symantec checks your computer for viruses and disables them. Update your virus definitions on a regular basis to keep your computer healthy.

You can also download the university's Symantec antivirus software from the Computer Help Desk page on Symantec Antivirus. You may download this software from both on and off campus. If you experience any problems, contact the Computer Help Desk (582-HELP).

On D600 or later version laptops from the University or the laptop purchase program, Symantec automatically updates its virus definitions. On any other computer, you will need to update Symantec manually from the program list.

Windows XP Updates

You should apply Windows operating system updates as soon as they are released to keep your operating system protected. These updates are critical, and will help you maintain your computer at its best. Please set your machine to run automatic updates daily. Do so by going to “start” “control panel” ”Automatic Updates.” Select “Automatic” and pick a time when your machine is likely to be on and you will be less likely to be using it. The virus scan will keep your computer busy for a ten minutes or so to complete, though you can always interrupt it.

Anti-Adware / Spyware programs destroy software that runs secretly, spying on your activity, popping up ads on your computer, and slowing you down. “Ad-Aware” is our recommended program for destroying ad-ware and spyware. Ad-Aware is free and can be obtained at http://www.download.com or the developer’s, Lavasoft, website.
