Statement of Quinnipiac University policy regarding support of Macintosh computer use.

The University strategy for information technology is based on a Microsoft Windows environment for personal computers, software applications, and central servers and services such as electronic mail.  This strategy of standardization is intended to provide economies of scale in purchase costs, support for laptops and desktops, and in staffing.

This strategy is also consistent with the goal of providing students with experience using the technology they will likely encounter after they graduate. For most disciplines this is Windows.  For disciplines with needs that cannot be met using Windows, the University provides and supports computer classrooms with Apple Macintosh computers and applications.  For faculty with needs that cannot be met with Windows, the University may provide Macs with the understanding that support is limited.

The University provides comprehensive support for faculty, staff and students using Windows computers provided by the University or purchased through our laptop program.  The University does not officially provide support for Macintosh computers (other than in computer classrooms), and individuals who choose to use Macs must be prepared to support themselves.  Although many of the University services may work with Macs, these services are developed, tested and maintained for our Windows environment.  Furthermore, our support staff are trained for support of Windows and not Macs.
