How do I publish web pages to MyWebSpace.Quinnipiac.edu?    (Revised 08/12/2005)

One way:  Use "File Transfer Protocol" or FTP.

1.  Organize your web files into one folder.
You will need:

  • All of the HTML pages you have created. All of the .jpg and .gif picture files you have included on your pages.
  • Any other media file (digital video or digital sounds)

2.  Organize your access to the web server.
You will need:

  • Server Name: mywebspace.quinnipiac.edu Your Network Login: in the form of quinnipiac\yourQUlogin (where your QUlogin is your Quinnipiac network (email) login name).   For example, if your login is JSmith, your login would be quinnipiac\JSmith.
  • Password: your Quinnipiac network (email) password.

3.  Go to a reliable computer connected via ethernet to the University network.  It would be best were that computer to use the Windows XP operating system.

  • Log on to the computer with your normal QUlogin and Password. Open Internet Explorer (IE)
  • Type the following, exactly as shown, into the address line of the web browser: ftp://mywebspace.quinnipiac.edu

4.  When the IE window opens, make it small enough ("restore down") that you can see My Computer or My FileSpace icons on the desktop.  Use them to navigate to the web files you want to publish.

  • Click on the files (hold down the shift key while clicking) to select all files.  Drag them to the open IE window and Drop them. WAIT!  The computer may take a minute to fully transfer your files.
  • Close the FTP IE window.

5.  Look at your published work.

  • Open Internet Explorer again. Type in the address bar: http://mywebspace.quinnipiac.edu/YourQUlogin
  • The page you named default.htm or index.htm will be what you see.

6.  Revise your published work.

  • Open the Organized Files from step 1. to make your changes.
  • Repeat from Step 3.
