Some practical ideas on teaching & learning
Active learning
Students learn more effectively if they are actively engaged, e.g. passive lectures or active discussions.
Collaborative learning
Students can learn by interacting with one another as well with the teacher, e.g. peer tutoring.
Learning styles
Students learn more effectively if they can use their prefered learning style, e.g. visual or aural or reading or kinesthetic.
Learning depends on what is already known
Students learn by integrating new knowledge with old, and thereby continually reconstruct their own understanding of the world (constructivist model of learning), so find out what they know and build on it.
Learning depends on relevence
Students learn material that is relevent to them more effectively.
