Statement of institutional values:

Quinnipiac University recognizes and respects the intellectual property rights of others.  We are committed to fulfilling our obligations with respect to our use of copyright-protected works, whatever their format.

Copyright guidelines for faculty :

Members of the Quinnipiac University community should consult the following sources if they have questions about copyright compliance:

Handling an incident of copyright infringement:

Quinnipiac University encourages its students and employees to educate their peers on copyright compliance.  If anyone witnesses a potential copyright infringement, we encourage that person to bring it to the attention of the individual as well as to the DMCA agent named above.  Members of the Quinnipiac University community who are using copyrighted works illegally will be required to cease and desist immediately or be subject to disciplinary action.

 

 
 
Sources of U.S. Copyright Law:

In addition to notices posted on photocopy machines and scanners, warnings printed on Interlibrary Loan and Course Reserve documents, and guidelines issued by the Copy Center, this should include links on the web site to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and to the United States Copyright Office.

Statement of Quinnipiac University’s obligations regarding copyright:

Quinnipiac University is registered with the U.S. Copyright Office with Linda Hawkes as the designated DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) agent of QU in the event someone needs to report copyright infringement.  Registered agents are representatives of “service providers”, defined as any provider of online services or network access, etc.  A directory of these service providers and agents can be found at the following URL:

Copyright Owners' Rights Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act Of 1998T

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 (DMCA) provides recourse for copyright owners who believe that material appearing on the Internet infringes upon their rights under US copyright law.  If you believe that materials hosted by Quinnipiac infringe upon your copyright, you may request that the material be removed, or that access to it be blocked.  If you believe that a notice of copyright infringement has been wrongly filed against you, the DMCA permits you to send Quinnipiac a counter-notice.  Notices and counter-notices must meet statutory requirements imposed by the DMCA.  Notices and counter-notices for the Site should be sent to: Linda M. Hawkes, Arnold Bernhard Library, Quinnipiac University, Hamden, CT 06518 <linda.hawkes@quinnipiac.edu>.  We suggest that you consult your legal advisor before filing a notice or counter-notice.  Please be aware that there can be substantial penalties for false claims.
