How to get a computer

The University provides laptop computers and software, electronic mail, and access to the campus network and the internet for faculty to meet their teaching and research responsibilities.

To get a computer, place a request with your department chair or program coordinator or Dean.  Requests are forwarded to the Dean of Academic Technology, John Paton, for review and then to Academic Technology staff who schedule pick-up times with individual faculty. Laptop computers are normally replaced on a 3 year cycle unless unusual needs of individual faculty justify more frequent replacement.

Faculty laptops are normally the same as the Dell Latitude laptop computers required of all undergraduate students, so that faculty and students can use the same software and services, including data projectors in the classrooms and support by the Computer Help Desk.

Faculty who need an Apple computer instead, may request a Mac laptop with the understanding that support is limited and few students will have access to Macs other than in public clusters in classrooms or the library.

Note: Contact the Dean's office at your school for school specific questions about technology needs.
