Calculated Formula Questions

     Print Instructions

    1. From the course menu on the left of your course page, click "Control Panel."
    2. Click "Test Manager" in the Assessment area on the right.
    3. Click "Add Test." The "Test Information" page appears.
    4. Click the text box next to name and type a name for your test.
    5. Click the text box under "Description" and type a description for your test.
    6. In the next text box, type instructions for your students.
    7. Click "Submit" on the bottom right of the screen. The "Test Canvas" appears.
    8. Click the combo box to display the question types.
    9. Click "Calculated Formula."
    10. Click "Go."
    11. Click the text box and type the equation, putting the variables in the main number sentence within square brackets [ ].
    12. Click the "Answer Formula" text box and enter the formula's variables and operators.
    13. Click the text box and enter a point value.
    14. Click the "Answer Range +/-" text box and enter an acceptable answer range. A Zero means that the students must enter the exact result of the formula.
    15. Click the check box to allow partial credit if you wish.
    16. Click "Next."
    17. You can make multiple answer sets by changing the range of numbers that will appear in the formula and by changing the Answer Set options.
    18. Click "Calculate."
    19. You can change the random numbers that have been generated automatically based on the number ranges you selected.
    20. Scroll down and c lick "Submit" to create the question.
    21. Repeat the process to add more questions. Each time students take the quiz they will see different numbers (based upon your selection) for the variables.
    22. Scroll down and click "OK."
